This Design

This design features Old Glory in a modernized square version of the thematic flag art that sprang to life in the earliest American times when people in love with what we have here in America celebrated holidays by decorating with the flag in all manner.  Because the design is paying homage to that,  it is presented in a slightly distressed treatment, which some call vintage, retro, aged, or grunge.  The top of the square comprises the blue field of the flag in a muted blue, flecks of earthtone white, with the shirt’s color shining through in place of the flag’s usual white areas.   Across the middle in antique red lettering is found our most wonderful statement “AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL” in muted red, and below that the bottom half of the design is formed of muted red vertical stripes, both aged by flecks of antique white.  The whole red white and blue image is presented on an olive drab fabric, for a totally cool look, and carrying a subtle metaphoric undercurrent that freedom is not free.  Conceived by Martin, drawn by Kem, and made right by Ms. Spenser Lia.
