Sometimes the call comes with a clock attached. In April 2026, America The Beautiful® was privileged to help meet a quick-response need at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, in support of incoming wounded troops being MEDEVACed stateside from Operation Epic Fury.
We had 48 hours to show up. We did.
What Got Delivered
Five cases of 309 brand-new blank t-shirts in specified sizes and bold, positive colors, gold, white, and Irish green, were delivered onsite within two days of the request, in coordination with America's Military Charity, Support Our Troops®.
These weren't just shirts. In the world of MWR, *Morale, Well-being, and Recreation*, the right gear at the right moment is part of the medicine. America's finest merit great treatment and positive surroundings as they heal from their work protecting everyone here at home and our nation's safe future during Operation Epic Fury.
How Wounded Get Home
Today, military medicine performs around the world, on land, at sea, and in the air, saving lives and safely transporting patients to military emergency care within minutes of the initial injury, and on to a stateside military treatment facility within 22 hours.
Patients are transported from the theater of operations to Joint Base Andrews by Medical Evacuation (MedEvac) and the Critical Care Air Transport Team (CCATT). The CCATT mission is to operate an intensive care unit inside an aircraft cabin during flight, adding critical care capability to the U.S. Air Force Aeromedical Evacuation System. CCATT patients have received initial stabilization but remain critically ill or wounded, requiring evacuation from a less-capable to a more-capable hospital, and out of the combat zone entirely.
Walter Reed is, for many of these troops, where home really begins.
