Every now and then, the mail brings something that makes the whole thing worth it. In April 2026, three of those something-else landed at America The Beautiful®, handwritten thank-you notes from troops deployed in Operation Epic Fury.
We're privileged to share what they had to say.
A Note from the Desert
One troop wrote: "Thank you so much for the care package! It has meant so much to all of us out here! I am also from NC, so it's nice to see a 'from' address from home. I am from Boone, NC, so I'm definitely missing the greenery. Thank you, again, for all that you do for us out here in the desert. Blessings to you all!"
Reading that, you remember what these care packages actually do. It isn't really about the snacks. It's about the connection, about a person on the other side of the world seeing a return address from home and remembering the place they're standing watch over.
A Note from a Medic Team
Another note arrived from a small team of medics, the people responsible for the health and welfare of everyone on their base:
"Thank you so much for your care packages. They mean a lot to us and we appreciate the snacks and earbuds you sent us. We share the snacks with many of our patients and made hygiene boxes we put out across the base for the other troops to use."
That's the multiplier effect right there. One care package becomes patient care. Becomes shared meals. Becomes hygiene boxes for everyone on the base.
A Third Note
"We all just want to thank you for everything you do, and take the time to let you know how much we think of you. Thank you for the care packages while we were deployed and the welcome gifts and goodies too!"
Three short notes. One enormous message: we see you, and thank you. And it goes both ways.
